Thank you to everyone who took part in our t-shirt competition at the start of December.

This article shares the winners of the competition and reveals strong interest in 19770 certification.

Congratulations to Rachel Geer-Hughes (USA), Parpreet Singh (India) and Claire Stanton (UK) who each won a limited edition ITAM Review polo shirt (See the original competition here).

I’m pleased to share the results of the poll linked with the competition. As we stated during the launch: entering the competition will directly help the development of the ITAM standard 19770 and the future of the ITAM industry.

The results are based on 227 completed questionnaires. Responses came various different roles within the ITAM industry as shown in the table below:

19770 certification

The first part of the survey focussed on the proposed process implementation guide from ISO (entitled 19770-10).

The group that developed the ITAM standard 19770 intends to create a guide on how to implement ITAM processes. This implementation guide would be aligned to 19770 and would focus on those with a basic understanding of ITAM, looking to improve their ITAM practice.”

We asked whether participants would buy such a guide and for the guide to make a real impact, what would it need to include.

19770-10 Implementation Guide

The development of this process guide has begun. Please contact me or David Bicket to get involved.

Strong interest in 19770 certification

Secondly, we wanted to assess the level of interest in organisations being certified against the standard.

ITAM Forum, a not for profit trade body, was launched this year with the specific purpose of bringing the ISO standard 19770 to market and growing the profile of the ITAM profession. As outlined in the ITAM Forum white paper, there is growing interest in certification for organisations to prove the quality of their ITAM practice. Source: ITAM Forum White paper.

“When available, would your organisation be interested in being certified?”

19770 certification

This is much stronger interest in the certification than I had anticipated.

It validates the assertion of the ITAM Forum white paper about the growing prominence of ITAM as a function and increasing board level exposure and scrutiny of ITAM teams.

Interest for being certified was strong from end user organisations, but it was equally strong from partners, service providers and consulting firms, the 19770 standard providing a North Star for the output of their services.

Certification is a great way to validate the quality of ITAM services and not only provides a globally recognised and independent benchmark to strive for, but also allows organisations to independently verify the quality of their work for internal and external stakeholders.

Thanks again for everyone that helped. Stay tuned to the ITAM Review newsletter for further developments around 19770 certification and get in touch with ITAM Forum if you want to get involved in bringing it to market.

Specifically, we’re building the scheme to assess organisations against the standard now, so it’s a great time to get involved. If you are partner or service provider delivering SAM services or an end user organisation wishing to join our pathfinder group, please get in touch.

Thanks, Martin
